What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture needles are 0.16mm approximately the thickness of average human hair. Acupuncture is used to help maintain or re-balance the body. What to expect on the day?
At your first appointment, Practitioner will do a full diagnostic consultation asking medical history and current problems, including taking pulse on both wrists and look at your your tongue and abdominal palpitation. This comprehensive diagnostic consultation allows the practitioner to create a suitable balanced treatment plan including lifestyle and dietary advice as well as acupuncture.
It is useful to wear loose clothing if possible. The initial consultation and treatment will take approximately 1hr 30 mins, all treatments thereafter will take 45 mins.
How many treatments do I need?
You can actually feel the difference within 5 or 6 treatments, but it all depends on individual's conditions.
Is it for me?
The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines on best practice now recommend that GP's offer a course of 10 sessions of acupuncture as a first line treatment for persistent, non specific low back pain. In September last year, NICE announced it also recognises acupuncture's benefits for migraines and tension-type headaches too.
